Hiring a car, van or minibus with a driver in Morocco: a practical guide
Kalonca Editorial · Nov 4, 2026
Car, van or minibus with a driver in Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir or Tangier: choosing the right vehicle, how pricing works, tipping and booking tips.
Why hire a vehicle with a driver in Morocco?
Driving yourself in Morocco means busy city traffic, mountain passes, medinas you cannot drive into and parking to find at every stop. Hiring a vehicle with a driver removes all of that: a local driver handles the road, you keep your own schedule, and your group stays together with its luggage. It is the most common way families and groups travel between Marrakech, Casablanca, Fès, Agadir, Tangier and the Sahara.
Car, van or minibus: which one for your group?
- Car with driver: suits one to three travellers with standard luggage, for airport transfers and city trips.
- Van with driver: the most popular choice for families and groups of friends, with room for suitcases, strollers or surfboards.
- Minibus with driver: for larger groups, events or company trips. Very large groups can also book several vans on the same route.
On Kalonca each listing shows the vehicle and the number of seats. Enter the number of travellers when you search and only vehicles big enough are shown.
How pricing works
Each driver sets their own price, shown before you book. It is per vehicle, not per person, so the price per traveller drops as the group grows. The main factors are the distance or duration, the size of the vehicle, the date and time, and any extra stops. For a multi-day trip, agree the plan with your driver after booking the first leg. Read more in our guide to private van pricing expectations.
What to agree before you leave
- Pickup and drop-off addresses, including riad names in a medina.
- Flight or train numbers if you start at an airport or station.
- Number of passengers and suitcases, and child seats if you travel with young children.
- Stops on the way: lunch, viewpoints, cooperatives.
Do you tip the driver?
Tipping is not compulsory, but it is common in Morocco to tip a driver whose service you enjoyed, especially after a long or multi-day trip. The amount is up to you.
